Adrenal Cortex

Part of adrenal glands.

Superior to each kidney - flattened pyramid shape.

3 - 5 cm height, 2 - 3 cm width.

Highly vascularised.

Produces steroid hormones that are essential for life.

 

Made up of 3 zones:

Zona glomerulosa - mineralcorticoids.

Zona fasciculata - glucocorticoids.

Zona reticularis - androgens.
